I turned down an aisle in the grocery store just as three college boys put a canister of breadcrumbs into their basket. On the surface, this was encouraging. But any excitement I felt at seeing the next generation dip their feet into culinary waters was quenched by this exchange:
1: Don’t we have bread? Couldn’t we make breadcrumbs?
2: Idiot. You can’t make breadcrumbs from bread.
3: Yeah. They’re not made from bread.
