Four things I learned in four years of youth ministry

1. Camps are espresso shots.  They produce lots of energy, emotion, and excitement that generally doesn’t last more than a week.

2. Mentors matter more than friends.

3. People change.  This is a good thing; the kid who broke a window in a dumb prank ends up being a mature small group leader.  It’s also a bad thing; people– even leaders– change for the worse.   Sometimes it happens really quickly.

4. Technology is a much bigger, tougher challenge for students than we usually acknowledge.
